Hi John,

I just got a message of Wikitree that you've added the children of Arend Jan Holdijk (Holdijk-49). As I share DNA with Johanna Berendina (Erna) Holdijk who is a grandchild of Arend Jan, I would like to know who of these children of Arend Jan is her father. I think she is known on wikitree as Holdijk-52.

Regards, Bart

Hello John,

You're missing qualified sources for Johan Bernard Hebing (abt.1780-) and Henrina Landers (abt.1780-). Could you please return to those profiles and make that correction? (I emailed you about this on April 20, perhaps the email went into your spam folder.) ~ Deb

Hi John -

thank you for catching the duplicate of Geesken Dengerink, who married my great-great-granduncle Gerrit Jan Scholten. I appreciate it!

Hi John,

We're so happy to see you are still active on WikiTree and caring about the Dutch profiles. The Dutch Roots Project is looking forward to give the project a new fresh start to put the Dutch in a more prominent place on the WikiTree map. The project is currently managing over 50,000 profiles and the total number of Dutch profiles on WikiTree exceeds 500,000! Within the project we are monitoring the quality of the Dutch profiles and assisting other WikiTreers in producing those profiles. We would love to pick up some other tasks but to do so we need more volunteers. This is why we check in with the members of the DRP to see if you would like to help us expand.

1) Would you like to do some volunteer work for the Dutch Roots Project? 2) If yes, what kind of work would you prefer to do within the Dutch Roots Project? E.g. translating, sourcing, or something else you want to work on?

We hope for a positive reaction but please don't feel obliged to volunteer. We just want to have a group of persons we can ask to help us with certain activities

Kind regards,

Jan, on behalf of the Dutch Roots Project

Hello Mr te Raa.

I see that you manage some Holtslag profiles. My mother's maiden name was Holtslag, and I am starting an unofficial Holtslag study. I was wondering if you have any Holtslag ancestry, and if you would be interested in joining?

Regards, Alex

Hi Alex,

No, I do not have any Holtslag ancestry.

Fredrika, https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Holtslag-11 , is an "outsider" from across the Ijssel river. About 30 km from my area of interest, Geesteren, Gelselaar, Borculo. https://www.google.com/maps/place/6971+JH+Cortenoever,+Netherlands/@52.1315873,6.2980451,12z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x47c796af41b18081:0xe551f9d75f44748f!8m2!3d52.1071355!4d6.195735

Hi John,

It looks like you have, are working on (adding) early Dutch profiles/ your deeper ancestors, perhaps you would like to join the Dutch Roots/Netherlands Project ? We all are working together on trying to source and improve all Dutch profiles that still need some help (so profiles that still need sources, or gedcoms that still need some cleaning up +sources, or a nice Bio, etc) at WikiTree, and all help is welcome and very much appreciated !

Hope to see you soon and greets from Enschede (Overijssel),

Bea :)

ps: Perhaps you already know or are using it, but also a great place to find sources (often the original primairy records + transcripts for them) is van papier naar digitaal and at geneanet you can find all kinds of (re)sources (not just DTB's (=Dopen-Trouwen_Begraven))

Hi, John,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, coordinating with others is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.

Based on your tags the Netherlands Project may fit your research focus. If not, use the Pre-1700 Projects list to review other possibilities. Read the goals and tasks of the projects and join those which are a good fit.

Have questions? Ask in the comments section of my profile.

Hello John!

You've been a member for a few weeks so I thought I would check in to see how it's going. Have the How-Tos been helpful or left you with questions? Most of us have questions after all that information!

I want to help! Click my name, send me a private message or ask in the comment section of my page. Sometimes links don't work in emails. If that's happened to you, check the public comments on your profile. The links will work from there.

Cindy ~ WikiTree Messenger

PS To find reliable sources for your profiles, go to the Family Tree & Tools tab; select Genealogy Research and scroll down near the bottom of that list and select Research with RootsSearch. There are over 20 websites to access from there.

Welcome John

I am pleased to confirm you as a full member, and welcome you to the WikiTree family, your contributions will go a long way to joining the world together.

I would suggest starting with the https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:New_Member_How-To pages, they will save you a lot of time and frustration.

I am here to answer any question you have, no matter how trivial you may think it is. There is no such thing as a silly question. Please add as much information as you can, it all helps to turn a “name” back into a person. I hope you enjoy the site, and find many cousins you never knew existed.

Happy tree climbing

Karen ~ WikiTree Greeter

Hello John,

To Volunteer just add any surnames of interest into Tags so that you have one tag for each surname and location. By doing that, when you are confirmed as a full member you can then click on those tags, and you'll be taken to a page where you'll see other genealogists who are also following those surnames and locations. I really encourage you to explore the connections it helps you make. :-)

Don't forget to Check the Volunteer Box

Also Note There is a button to click at the bottom of the page that says Add tags and Volunteer. It is rectangular.

When you have done that one of our Greeters will confirm you as a full member so that you can Edit your Profile and enter information into WikiTree.
